Great for overall immunity, colds, flu, sinus conditions, coughs, raw throats and upper respiratory tract infections.

This immune boosting tonic is best taken on an empty stomach in the morning and/or half an hour before meals and before going to bed. As a preventive measure you can take one or two teaspoons per day based on personal requirements.

If you are in the middle of fighting a cold or an acute infection take 1 teaspoon every 3-4 hours until you feel better.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium onion skin removed (cut into slices)
  • 2 cloves of garlic skin removed and crushed (crushing releases alliinase)
  • 2 inch knob ginger in pieces or grated
  • 1 cup of Manuka or local honey

Other immune boosting ingredients you can add:

  • Turmeric (knob, 2 inches): anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal
  • Elderberry (berries = teaspoon): antioxiden, anti-viral
  • Thyme (leaves = tablespoon): antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic
  • Astragalus root (leaves = tablespoon): immune system, preventing colds and upper respiratory infections
  • Clove (whole = teaspoon): antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral
  • Lemon (whole and sliced): antioxidant, antimicrobial

Instructions

  1. Put the onion, garlic, and ginger in a pan and cover them with honey.
  2. Cook on low heat, stirring periodically, until the onions, garlic and ginger are soft.
  3. Transfer onions, garlic and ginger from the pot into a sterilized glass container and leave on the counter for 24 hours. *At this point you can strain some syrup from the pot and consume 1 teaspoon of syrup and take right away if you feel like you are fighting cold or flu.
  4. Transfer from the countertop to the fridge and store the syrup in your fridge for a month.
